Hi there, I'm Susan, and welcome to the Up Front! Toolbox.
If you're a team leader or supervisor looking to learn new management skills, or to update your current skills, this package of resources is for you!
Now, let's begin your 5-minute guided tour. Click the Next button. It's over on the lower right hand side of your screen.
What's in the Up Front! Toolbox?
° Units of competency for
BSB41004 Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management)
° Each unit has two to four practical tasks supported by learning resources
° Check your assessment arrangements with your
trainer
Susan:
Up Front! contains units of competency for your Certificate IV qualification as a frontline manager.
Each of these units contains two to four practical tasks backed up with heaps of resources. And we've designed each task so that it covers the specific criteria that you'll be assessed on.
Of course, you'll need to check your assessment arrangements with your trainer.
What's in the tasks?
See - you observe a team leader solving a problem
Try - you work on solutions to another problem
Apply - you do the task in your own workplace, or another practice setting
A Learning pack helps you learn the skills you need to do each task
Susan:
Here's what a task screen looks like.
After a quick overview from me, you get stuck into some problem-solving.
If you're like me, and you like to learn by example, you can start by seeing how a team leader solves a day-to-day problem at work.
Then you can try out activities based on another team leader's problem - that's where you start to put your knowledge into action.
Then comes the really practical part - applying all of what you've learned to your own job.
To help you along the way, each task comes with a learning pack. That's where you'll find the content to develop the skills you need to get the task done.
Moving around each task is easy - just click the Next button on the task screen, or click one of the tabs if you want to jump to a different part of the task.
Learning packs help you
with each Task
° Overview - with an explanation of key terms
° Show and tell - an audio presentation to introduce the key points
° Content guide - reading notes with 'My workplace' questions
° Websites to explore for more resources
° Self-check - a short quiz to see how you're going
Susan:
Now for a closer look at the Learning packs. We've designed them for self-guided study. Start with the Overview, and then go to the Show and tell for a presentation on the key points covered in the Learning pack. The Content guide is a set of detailed reading notes with short questions to help you to make the connection between the 'theory' and your own workplace. We've provided them in a way that you can open them in your own Office program, or word processor, so you can easily save, and type in your own notes. You'll also, find websites and a self-check quiz in each learning pack.Examples from 6 team leaders
° Shauna - postal and delivery
° Ken - plant bakery
° Arens - maintenance team in a local council
° Jill - bar supervisor
° Garry - nursing home
° Jamilah - accounts payable
Susan:
In Up Front! you'll meet six team leaders ... Shauna, Ken, Arens, Jill, Garry and Jamilah.
You'll hear about where they work and more importantly, their stories. They focus on common situations and problems that, as team leaders or supervisors, we all must know how to deal with. Things like devising a production schedule, resolving a conflict, or managing a client.
Up Front!'s Recognition and learning plan tool will help you to:
° self-assess your skills and
experience
° prepare for recognition - that's getting credit for your skills and experience
° develop your personalised
learning plan
Susan:
There's a chance that you already have some of the skills required to get your qualification in frontline management.
That's where the Up Front!Recognition and learning plan tool comes in. Recognition means getting credit where it's due. And whether it's one unit of competency, or the whole qualification, the recognition part of our tool can help you get your application ready.
The other part of the tool is the learning plan. You can use it to plan which tasks in Up Front! you'll do, plus any other learning activities that you - or your trainer - plans for each task.
