As you work through the Up Front! Toolbox there will be some files you may want to save to your own computer. It's a good idea to create a folder for your training program so you can find everything later.
Windows
Macintosh
Set your screen area to 800x600 or 1024x768. Select whichever one you feel comfortable with. To do this:
Windows
Click on the Start menu, then Settings, then Control Panel, then Display.
Macintosh
Click on the Apple menu, then Control Panels, then Monitors & Sound.
Note: if you choose 800x600, you may need to turn off your Favourites or Bookmarks panel on the left-hand side of your web browser so you can see the whole page.
Some sections in Up Front! have sound. To adjust your volume…
Windows
Click on the Volume icon (located on the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen), then use the slider control to adjust the volume.
Macintosh
Note: If you're in an open work area, you may prefer to listen with headphones on, or just read the text version that is provided with each sound.
Up Front! is designed for either:
Up Front! will also work if you are using the Mozilla or Safari browsers, but if you experience problems then we recommend you use one of the recommended browsers above.
To find out which version of the browser you are using, start your web browser, then…
Windows
Pull down the Help menu, then About Internet Explorer or About Netscape. You'll see the version number at the top of the screen.
Macintosh
select the Apple icon, located top left of screen and then select "About Internet Explorer" or "Netscape 6"
To download a new browser go to:
Internet Explorer: www.microsoft.com/windows/ie
Netscape: channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers
If you can see the animation under this paragraph, you have the correct version of the Flash Player.
If you can't see the animation, you'll need to download the Flash Player. Go to www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer and follow the instructions on the screen.
If you have problems installing Flash, go to www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/playerfaq.htm#fixall and follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: if you're in a large organisation, a network administrator may need to do this installation for you - contact your IT support staff for advice.
Some sections of Up Front! contain Word documents so that you may save and easily modify the contents for your own use. To open these you will need an Office application that can read files in the .doc format, for example:

These are important skills that all team leaders need, and they are relevant to all of the units in the Up Front! Toolbox. You can either work through any or all of them before you begin your first Unit, and/or you can refer to while you’re working on a Unit – it’s up to you! |
First, make sure your monitor is set to 800x600 or more. If this does not fix the problem, you may need to change some of the settings in your web browser.
You might need to adjust your monitor setting so it's easier to read. To do this:
Sometimes, problems with a Flash Player that's already installed can prevent your upgrading to the latest player. If you have problems installing Flash, go to www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/playerfaq.htm#fixall and follow the instructions on the screen.
If you can see the animation under this paragraph, you have the correct version of the Flash Player.
If you use your browser's 'back' button, you may sometimes have to click it twice or more to go back one screen. We recommend you use the navigation buttons and menus inside the Toolbox to move around the Unit rather than using the browser's back button.
It's a good idea to save these to your course folder on your own computer. That way you can personalise these documents for your own use.
Follow these steps. If you're in a large organisation you may need to ask your IT support staff to do this for you.
Wherever possible, use the Print button on the Up Front! web page rather than the print button on your browser toolbar.
In the Task and the Show and tell (in the Learning pack), be sure to open that Text version, and then click the Print button on the web page that opens.
