When to use LEGO Serious Play

How do you know when LEGO Serious Play is relevant for your organisational challenge?

LEGO Serious Play is based on the beliefs that:

•Leaders do not have all the answers - their success is based on hearing all the voices in the room
•People naturally want to contribute - they want to be part of something bigger and want to take ownership
•Allowing each member to contribute and to speak out results in a more sustainable organisation
•Teams often work sub-optimally as there is a wealth of knowledge and insight that is untapped

LEGO Serious Play is highly relevant when:

• When everyone has an interest or stake in what is on the agenda
• When it is highly important that everyone participates in the discussions
• When you want to genuinely connect team members to organisational value systems and when you want to note shifts in behaviour as a result of the intervention
• When you see that team spirit is not at the right level and team members are becoming de-motivated and disengaged
• When you want to use time efficiently and avoid people tuning out of the discussion
• When you want to provoke new learning and innovative thinking
• When you bring together cross-functional teams and want them to ignite their creativity
• When you want to deal with tough and complex issues and do so in a constructive atmosphere
• When you want everyone to contribute their true feelings and insights without feeling intimidated
• When you would rather have people say what they mean instead of not speaking at all
• When you have a situation where a few team members tend to dominate the discussions and others are excluded
• When you want to create a level playing field for discussions
• When it is highly important that the group comes to a decision that they can all commit to
• When your current meetings focus more on the messengers than the message
• When you need to develop strategic plans in a visual and exciting way
• When you want to test these plans in ‘real-time' through a range of what-if scenarios
• When you want to train managers to think more systemically about issues instead of remaining in silos
• When you want teams to develop guiding principles for moving forward in a productive way
• When you to induct new team members appropriately into the culture of the team
• When there are changes occurring in the organisation and you want full buy-in
• When there are changes occurring in the organisation and you would like the team to express what they are feeling
• When you have managers who need to lead others through change
• When you have acquired a new business and team members need to get to know each other to create a unified whole
• When a new project team has been formed and you want a solid foundation for moving ahead

The minimum size of a LEGO Serious Play group is 2 people. The ideal size is 8 - 12 participants. If there are more participants, additional facilitators are suggested.

The minimum length of a LEGO Serious Play session is approximately 2 - 3 hours. Sessions are typically 1 day in length. 2 days is suggested for the real time strategy workshop.

LEGO Serious Play workshops generate a high level of engagement, participation and enjoyment.
